. icefall . shadowclan . warrior . male .
icefall blinked open his eyes. one green, one blue, pale and cold in the gray light that filled the warrior's den. the tabby ruffled his fur, shivering against the cold. the clans had been plunged into leafbare more than a moon ago, and frost was building up on the den. the young warrior got to his paws, shook the sleep out from his limbs, and headed out into the brisk morning air. a thick layer of gray cloud covered the sky above, promising snow that evening. icefall trotted over to the freshkill pile, and selected a scrawny rabbit from the side. prey was scarce this season. he took a seat by the den, where he usually ate, and dug it to the stringy meat. maybe someone would join him.

" i can't be perfect "
foxclaw padded out of the warriors den, shaking snow from his pale cream tabby fur as he did so. he glanced at icefall, his nephew, and gave a curt nod before heading towards the freshkill pile. not much left to choose from, but there was a good-looking magpie: his favourite. foxclaw plucked the bird from the pile, returned to the warrior's den, and took a seat beside his nephew. "hello there, icefall." he mewed, and bit into the magpie. he asked his next question around a mouthful of prey. "how are you? have you been hunting yet, today?"
" now it's just too late "

icefall barely glance in his uncle's direction as the cream tabby took a seat beside him. he didn't even notice what foxclaw was eating, or what kind of mood he was in. icefall just felt stiff today, a little out of it. it seemed a lot easier to call foxclaw his uncle than it was to call rosepaw his aunt. to begin with, rosepaw was younger then. second, she was more like a friend than anything else. and she didn't act like an aunt anyway. foxclaw, on the other hand, was the guff, tough-love kind of guy you might expect for an uncle. "hm? what?" icefall mumbled, looking up for the first time. "oh, no, i haven't yet. you?"

Across the camp, resting near the apprentice's den, Rosepaw munched away on a black-furred mouse. The cold had frozen it slightly, but the frost melted quickly on her tongue. The tabby she-cat gulped down the rest of her meal, then parted her jaws to taste the air. She could smell her older brother, Foxclaw, and her nephew, Icefall. They were eating, she guessed, some kind of bird and a ground animal. The young she-cat got to her paws and trotted across camp, violet eyes staring blankly ahead. She took a seat, grinned, and greeted them both by touching her nose to there's. "Hello!" she mewed cheerfully. "Mind if I join you? Hope I'm not interrupting anything."

foxclaw frowned, and tilted his head to the side. icefall seemed a little out of it, like he had something on his mind. "not yet." he responded, not really interested in continuing with the small talk. "is something wrong? you look like you've got something on your mind." he waited for icefall to give a response, but rosepaw came along before anything else was said. foxclaw smiled and touched the young she-cat's nose, waving his tail in greeting. "hey, rosepaw. no, you're not interrupting. why don't we head out on a hunting patrol, seeing as none of us seem to have caught anything yet?"
